Fremont, CA Drag Strip "Crossed Pistons"

Opened in 1959, Fremont Drag Strip quickly earned its reputation as one of the premier drag racing venues in the country. For nearly three decades, the quarter-mile became hallowed ground where records were shattered, rivalries were forged, and some of the sport's greatest legends left their mark.

Although the gates closed for the final time in 1988, the spirit of Fremont has never faded. For those who were there, the memories are as loud as ever. And for those who weren't, you can still almost feel the thunder of nitro engines and hear the roar of the crowds that made Fremont one of the drag racing's most iconic tracks.

Some tracks disappear. Legends never do.
